A very special visitor and her family explore & learn together…

We have enjoyed meeting lots of new faces this week in Learn 2 Row. It’s proving to be very popular with all ages and a big hit for families wanting to enjoy this sport together, in the same way as they would kayak or SUP. Lymington has the ‘best’ playground for this.

We were very excited to welcome Jilli Stanning onto our Learn 2 Row Programme. Aunty to Heather; Double World Champion, Double Olympic Champion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heather_Stanning), Jilli lives locally and is keen to row with Heather one day! She’s had some Indoor lessons with me and this week she took to the water for the first time in a GlideSolo. She had watched the video playback of the 2012 Olympic Final in London to prepare for her lesson and it totally worked, as she was relaxed and handled the boat extremely intuitively. ‘It’s in the blood’, she said!

Later, Heather and her husband Jonny handed gorgeous Baby Magnus (6mnths) over to willing buggy pushers and enjoyed one of our magical sunset rows through Oxey Lakes. The plan is that next time Heather is visiting, Jilli will have completed her L2R and be ready to join her on the water! Now that’s a goal!

We have out first rower to completed the Learn to Row Programme and is only a capsize recovery drill away from our Explore programme; RowFit, Social rowing and we can’t wait to get her adventuring.

The LARC Adult Squad had a fabulous sunset row out to Tanners Lane on Tuesday night, via Pylewell. The Omnium group and JLARC Newbies enjoyed fun skills sessions up in the lagoon beyond the Town Quay’s railway bridge and on Thursday the JLARC J16’S adventured through Oxy Lakes to Saltern’s Sailing Club, with a beach stop along the sea wall.
